Overview

The view point was named "Hasanis" because of the toponym of the area, which was named after a resident of the area, Hasan. According to tradition, a plague had hit the Island in 1692, which devastated the island. The settlement near the viewpoint was hit particularly hard, resulting in almost its complete abandonment due to people passing away or abandoning the area to settle around the monastery of Mega Agros where it was safer. Only two friends remained at the settlement refusing to abandon their roots even at the risk of death from the plague. One of the friends was Hasan, the landowner of the viewpoint area. The two friends, perhaps in a dark sense of humor about their grim circumstances, engaged in a morbid wager. The one who would outlive the other, would inherit all of the other's possesions, including land. As fate would have it, Hasan lost the wager, meaning his friend inherited his belongings. To commemorate Hasan's unwavering friendship and his role in the tragic bet, his friend retained the name of the land as "Hasanis", a touching reminder of their story that endures to this day.
